Classroom Behavior Policy
This year, we will be using a BLUE behavior folder. This folder will include a Behavior Tracker (classroom and Encore) sheet as well as a Work Habits Tracker Sheet. Your child should bring this home weekly (or whenever a mark is given) to share with you his/her progress toward a successful quarter. Please do not remove the sheets as we use these to determine behavior and work habits grade. This behavior policy is in place for all blue wing students (that means Fifth grade teachers also use this system).
Each teacher will use a reward system in class and this will be discussed at Parent Night. We want to reward and encourage good behavior at school. Please follow up with your child's teacher with any questions or concerns you might have.

Here are some tips for homework:
Homework
Hints:
ð Homework
should be no more than 30 minutes -45 minutes a night for 4th grade.
If they are routinely spending more time than that, we need to explore possible
reasons why.
ð Assume
that your children will have studying to do every night.
ð Ask
your children if they understand their homework. If they do not, work a few
examples together.
ð Don't
do your children's work for them. Help them learn how to do it themselves.
ð Provide
a quiet, well-lit space, away from distractions and with all the right study
materials -- paper, pens and pencils, books, a dictionary, etc.
ð Try
to find a separate space for each of your children, or schedule quiet times for
homework in designated spaces.
ð Create
a regular schedule, allowing for adequate study and free time.
ð
Limit TV time, and do not allow
it during homework.
ð
Ask your children to show you
their homework after it has been checked, to learn where they're having trouble
and where they're doing well. See if your children did the work correctly.
ð Don't
be afraid to get in touch with the teacher if you and your child don't
understand an assignment or if your child is having a great deal of trouble.
Almost all parents run into these problems, and teachers are glad to help.
ð Show
your children that you think homework is important. If you are at work during
homework time, ask to see their work when you get home.
ð Praise
your children for doing well. Make praise a habit.
ð
When possible, be available to
answer questions. Try doing a problem or two together, then watch as the child
tries the next one.
ð
Avoid simply giving an answer.
Instead, ask questions that let your child see the problem in smaller,
sequential steps.
ð
Share any concerns with your
children's teachers about the amount or type of homework assigned. Be sure to
let them know if your children are having difficulty or are unable to do most
of it by themselves.
ð
If you find your child is
dawdling through his or her homework, try using and egg timer to keep them on
task. Set the timer for a reasonable amount of time for one task and walk away.
Many parents (including me) have used this method with great success in
promoting independent and efficient use of homework time.

Our redo policy: *Please note that individual teachers*
Students may redo graded work that is given back to them before the end of the nine weeks for additional credit. To receive this credit the following things MUST be done:1. Parent signature required.
2. On a separate piece of paper, students must write the number of the missed item and the ENTIRE question out. For example, on the test it says:
11. How is the numeral 907,203 written in words?-they need to write this exactly.
3. Students only need to write the correct answer. If it is short answer, simply give the correct answer. If it is multiple choice, students must write out the correct letter and the ENTIRE answer on their paper.
4. Please do not erase original answer on the test. It's a good reflection to see what and why they missed.
5. Students may use any resource that they need to answer the question. That includes YOU!!
6. Staple the redo work to the original test and turn into my redo bin.
