Weekly Updates for September 6th

September is here!  Please check out what we are doing this week:

Mark your calendars!
  • Next Tuesday, September 13th, is our first PTA meeting. This is a great way to get involved in our school and to also find out the great things we are doing!
  • Box Tops collection will be this month!

Math: This week we will begin using our place value understanding for adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers.  We will model this standard (which was introduced in 3rd grade) with our place value charts, tape diagrams and with our standard algorithm.  Please take a moment to check out the math page of the blog to get the latest resources for the standards we are learning.

Reading: We finished up Because of Winn-Dixie and will take a test tomorrow over what they have learned. There will also be a skill check to see if they are mastering the skills we are teaching each week. We will begin  Lewis and Clark this week before our next novel which will begin on Monday, September 12th.

Writing: We are continuing working on Narrative Writing.

Social Studies: We finished up Module 1 and did an open book/notes test today. We did not finish test so we will continue to take tomorrow. We will begin studying  Explorers for the next few weeks. Our first project will go home tomorrow and will be due Friday, September 30th.

Science:  We will begin Life Science this week.  Our first unit will be on cells.  Our science page has some resources that will help students and families understand what students will be learning in this unit.
